Credit Union Video Marketing: How "A New Day" Drove 436 Loan Applications for PGFCU

Prince George’s Federal Credit Union wanted more of its own community walking through the door. We built “A New Day,” a credit union video marketing campaign that reached close to half a million local viewers and turned into 436 loan applications and 55 new accounts.

A community credit union that wanted to be seen like one

PGFCU has deep roots in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The challenge was never reputation, it was reach. Plenty of people in the community qualified for better loan terms and more personal service than the big banks were offering them, but they had no idea PGFCU was even an option. The goal was specific and measurable, more loan applications, more accounts opened, more of the local community choosing their local credit union.

So we did not set out to make a nice brand video. We set out to make a campaign that moved real numbers.

Three stories, one message

“A New Day” was built on three themes that map to why people actually join a credit union. The first was financial empowerment, showing how PGFCU helps real families reach real goals, from a first car to a first home. The second was community, because a credit union’s whole advantage is that it belongs to the people it serves, so we featured local small businesses and local residents instead of stock footage of strangers. The third was trust, carried by members themselves talking about their own experiences rather than a script telling viewers what to think.

Getting it in front of the right half-million people

A great video nobody sees does not move numbers, so distribution got as much attention as production. We paired cable advertising, which reached a broad local audience with high viewership, with targeted social and online placement to sharpen the aim. The point was never to reach the most people, it was to reach the right people, the residents of the community PGFCU actually serves.

The numbers that came back

The campaign generated 436 loan applications, representing more than $10.3 million in potential loan value. It opened 55 new accounts tied directly to “A New Day,” and the cable buy alone put the message in front of nearly half a million viewers across the local market. For a community credit union, that is not vanity reach, that is pipeline, and it is the kind of result that makes a video campaign pay for itself.

Why credit union video marketing works

Financial services run on trust, and trust is almost impossible to earn in a banner ad. Credit union video marketing works because it lets an institution show its actual people, its real members, and its place in the community, which is exactly the advantage a local credit union has over a national bank. “A New Day” led with that advantage instead of hiding it, then put real budget behind getting it seen. A story worth telling plus a plan to get it in front of the right audience is what turns a video into applications and accounts.

Credit unions win on trust and community, and credit union video marketing is how you make that advantage impossible to miss. Deposits at PGFCU are federally insured through the NCUA, the same protection the big banks advertise, so the only real question for a local member is who they would rather bank with. A campaign that answers that question in the member’s own neighborhood, in the voices of people they recognize, is what turns awareness into applications and applications into long term relationships.
