Safety Training Video: How MCN Construction Onboards Every New Hire the Same Way

MCN Construction takes jobsite safety seriously, but getting the same message to every new worker on every site was turning into a scheduling problem. We built them one safety training video that handles onboarding the same way, every single time, without pulling an experienced person off the job to do it.

The problem was never the safety, it was the scheduling

MCN Construction already had the safety protocols figured out. What they did not have was a repeatable way to teach them. Every new hire meant taking an experienced person off the job to run an in-person orientation, and on a construction schedule that time is expensive. Multiply it across sites and seasons and you end up with the same seminar delivered a dozen slightly different ways, which is the last thing you want when the subject is keeping people safe.

So the ask was simple. Take everything a new worker needs to know before they set foot on a site and put it into one video that says it right, every time, without tying up a supervisor to run the room.

We started with their protocols, not a generic script

Before we wrote a word, we sat down with MCN’s safety team to understand their actual protocols, who the video was for, and what a new worker genuinely needs to remember on day one. A safety training video only works if the person watching it still remembers it out on the jobsite, so the script had to be clear and concrete instead of a wall of policy language. We wrote it around real situations a worker would recognize, then filmed on-site footage and put MCN’s own safety experts on camera to deliver the key points.

Where animation does the heavy lifting

Some safety concepts are hard to show with a camera alone, either because staging them for real would be unsafe or because the important part is something you cannot easily see. That is where we leaned on animation and motion graphics, turning the abstract stuff into something a new hire can actually picture. The result holds attention instead of playing in the background while people check their phones, and that attention is exactly what you are paying for when the goal is retention.

One video, every site, every new hire

The finished orientation video does what a room full of seminars used to do, minus the travel, the logistics, and the instructor time. MCN can send it to a new hire in Virginia or a new hire three states over and know they are getting the exact same safety training, delivered the exact same way. When the protocols are consistent, the message is consistent, and that consistency is the entire point when you are talking about worker safety.

Why a safety training video beats the seminar

Traditional safety seminars fight two things at once, cost and attention. A safety training video solves the first outright and, done well, wins the second, because a worker is far more likely to remember a clear, well produced explanation than a slide deck read aloud at seven in the morning. MCN can reuse and update the same video for years without booking another session, which means lower cost, higher retention, and one consistent standard for every person who joins the team.

If you run crews across multiple sites and you are tired of rebuilding the same safety training video conversation every hiring season, that is exactly the kind of problem one well made video solves once and keeps solving.
